Title
33. Motion to Award Phase 2 of Deliberately Phased Construction Contract for the Central Precinct to Johnson-Laux Construction (Event No. 5956)
Strategic Priority
Public Safety
Description

Recommend approval to procure construction services from Johnson-Laux in the amount of $4,407,306.91. The construction services will be used to construct the new Central Precinct facility at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and West 34th Street. The City of Savannah is utilizing a phased approach to this project to expedite construction. Phase 1 -- which includes demolition, street relocation, underground utility, grading and other site preparation work -- was awarded to Johnson-Laux by City Council on December 7, 2017.

Johnson-Laux was selected for both phases because it holds the State Job Order Contract. The State of Georgia’s job order contract is considered a convenience contract that is available for use by all State, City, and County public entities. The purpose of the contract is to provide multi-traded general construction services. The state of Georgia used a competitive bidding procedure to select Johnson Laux Construction to serve as a provider of these services for this region.

The Office of Business Opportunity established an 18% goal for this project.  Johnson-Laux submitted participation in the amount of 18.12%.
