February 27, 2020 City Council Regular Meeting
Title
57. Adoption of a Resolution to Transfer Title of Properties known as 218 and 220 Cumming Street, West Savannah, to the Land Bank Authority for the Renovation of Two Single Family Units
Strategic Priority
Neighborhood Revitalization
Description

The Mayor and Aldermen have undertaken an initiative to bring about the redevelopment of blighted, abandoned property with quality housing on Cumming Street in the West Savannah neighborhood. The Chatham County / City of Savannah Land Bank Authority (LBA) has requested that the City transfer title to vacant properties known as 218 and 220 Cumming Street to the LBA. The LBA, in turn, will work with Family Promise of Greater Savannah (Family Promise) to bring about the renovation of two vacant, blighted, houses.  Once renovated, Family Promise will make the houses available to families participating in its housing initiatives.  Renovation of the houses is planned to begin in April 2020.   Adoption of this Resolution will help the City fulfill its goal of facilitating the revitalization of Cumming Street through the improvement of vacant blighted properties that will be occupied and affordable to modest income households.   The City has, in the past, similarly transferred blighted property to the LBA for this purpose.
