February 27, 2020 City Council Regular Meeting
Title
56. Adoption of a Resolution to Transfer Title of Property known as 231, 236, 238 and 242 Cumming Street, West Savannah, to the Land Bank Authority for the Development of Four New Single Family Units
Strategic Priority
Neighborhood Revitalization
Description

The Mayor and Aldermen have undertaken an initiative to bring about the redevelopment of blighted, abandoned, property with new housing on Cumming Street in the West Savannah neighborhood. The Chatham County / City of Savannah Land Bank Authority (LBA) has requested that the City transfer title to vacant properties known as 231, 236, 238 and 242 Cumming Street to the LBA. The LBA, in turn, will work with CHSA Development, Inc. (CHSA) to bring about the construction of four new houses that CHSA will sell to qualified modest income home buyers through the City’s DreamMaker home purchase program. Construction of the new houses is planned to begin in April 2020. Adoption of this Resolution will help the City fulfill its goal of facilitating the revitalization of Cumming Street through the improvement of vacant blighted properties that will be occupied and affordable to modest income households. The City has, in the past, similarly transferred blighted property to the LBA for this purpose.
