This is for a final project closeout amendment with Johnson-Laux Construction (7001 Chatham Center Dr Suite 600, Savannah, GA)^(A) in an amount not to exceed $286,481. This amendment is to cover changes due to structural issues in the building, upgrades to the HVAC system, replace the entrance doors, replace the gymnasium roof, and perform additional electrical work in the building.

The structural work was the result of unforeseen conditions and included adding structural lentils above the new front entrance and adding furring strips in the unlevel wall in the new fitness area to properly hold the mirrors. During demolition, the door frames were exposed and were found to be rotted. This required the replacement of the four (4) entry doors and their door frames. The rerouting of electrical and internet services was needed to accommodate additional staff that will be at the center. The replacement of the gymnasium roof and the replacement of four (4) inefficient HVAC units were originally removed from the scope during value engineering but savings during construction allowed these items to be included in the work.

The original contract with Johnson-Laux for this project was approved by City Council on July 22,2021, in the amount of $1,059,161.50.  The total contract amount to date including this amendment is $1,345,641.83. (A) Indicates local, DBE owned business.
