This is for an upgrade to remotec andros system from Remotec in the Amount of $50,730. 

The Bomb Squad’s Remotec Andros F6B robot is currently inoperable via radio control due to the failure of its legacy digital radio system, installed in 2010. The system is irreparable and unable to maintain consistent connectivity beyond 15 feet. Current operations must be conducted in “tethered” mode via fiber optic cable, which significantly limits operational flexibility and poses safety risks in confined or hazardous environments—such as recent support to the FBI and SPD SWAT during a suspected homemade explosives incident in a hotel room. A new, manufacturersupported radio system will restore full wireless operational capability to the squad’s primary Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV). This is the only available upgrade that meets the National Guidelines for Bomb Technicians, which require teleoperated robot capability. This proposed investment will significantly enhance the Savannah Police Department Bomb Squad’s capability to prevent, protect against, and respond to incidents involving explosives or hazardous devices in the City of Savannah and throughout the region.
