Description

Recommend approval to authorize the City Manager to execute a revenue generating annual contract with Southern Metal Recycling, Inc. for Scrap Metal Recycling. Under this contract, the contractor will pay the City of Savannah $105 for each ton of scrap metal purchased. During the previous three years, the City generated on average 509 tons of scrap metal, which would equate to an average revenue of $53,474.75.

  • 2016 = 407.41 tons
  • 2017 = 592.59 tons
  • 2018 = 527.85 tons

Due to the quantity generated by the City, the contracted rate represents a premium rate that is 20% above retail pricing. The contract will allows the Sanitiation Department to remove and dispose of certain scarp metals received at the City's Landfill, and other City facilities.  Common items including: old appliances, and other assorted scrap metals.

The contract term shall be from November 7, 2019 through December 31, 2020.
