Description Travis Stringer on behalf of Beth Vantosh is requesting approval of a Special Use Permit for the property located at 11 East 40th Street (PIN 20074 01003) to operate a remote private parking lot to serve as overflow parking for Starland Village.
The parcel is located in the TC-1 (Traditional Commercial-1) zoning district which was established to ensure the vibrancy of historic mixed-use neighborhoods with traditional development patterns characteristic of Savannah during the streetcar and early automobile eras. The district provides for commercial areas that are developed at a mass and scale harmonious with nearby residential neighborhoods. For the TC-1 zoning district, the parking lot use requires a special use permit. If approved, Code Compliance would address any enforcement issues.
The recent pattern of new commercial and residential developments gives support to the need for more off-street parking. In review of the standards, it appears that the subject property and proposed use meets the requirements for a special use permit. A parking lot is in keeping with the pattern of development in the neighborhood as well as the Comprehensive Plan.

Recommendation The Planning Commission approved the Special Use Permit for a parking lot at 11 East 40th Street (PIN 20074 01003). The Special Use Permit shall be non-transferable. | |
