Description

This contract modification no. 1 is for engineering design and construction overview services for the Southwest Quadrant with Thomas & Hutton Engineering (LOCAL) in the amount of $1,164,740. Task #4 will be used for the design and construction overview services for a 30-inch Force Main from the Chatham County Megasite new Lift Station to Dean Forest Road. Thomas & Hutton Engineering is currently under contract performing construction overview for Task #1 – Lift Station #193 Force Main Upgrade, and engineering design for Task #2 – New Lift Station and Sewer Conveyance Main to Travis Field WRF and Task #3 – New Lift Station #194 Force Main of the overall long-term Southwest Quadrant sewer improvements.

The scope of services for Task #4  includes the design and construction overview of a new 30” force main that will convey flow from Task #2 lift station on Pine Meadows Drive (Chatham County Megasite) to Dean Forest at Pipemakers Canal. The preliminary route is approximately 4.2 miles (20,725’) in length. The force main route will include easements within the Georgia Ports Authority property, Tom Triplett Park (Chatham County), and use of the Savannah and Ogeechee Canal right-of-way. Installation of the proposed force main will address long-term sewage conveyance capacity shortfalls in the SW Quad and is part of multi-phased water and sewer improvements for District 5 necessary to sustain rapid residential, commercial, and industrial development.

Task #1 was approved by City Council on February 7, 2023 in the amount of $464,785. Task #2 and task #3 were approved by City Council on January 11, 2024 in the amount of $920,030. The total cost for this project, including this modification, is $2,549,555.
