Recommend approval of Contract Modification No. 1 with Southern Champion Construction for the East Savannah Waterline Replacement in the amount of a reduction of $1,570.

This is a summary change order for the East Savannah Waterline Replacement project which documents project additions and field changes for project close out.  This project replaced aging two inch galvanized steel waterlines with new six inch PVC waterlines, added fire hydrants, and included new water mains in the East Savannah neighborhood to loop the water system.  This summary change order documents changes to the contract due to the addition of 300 feet of water main was added to the project to create an additional water main loop.  All other changes included in this change order are based on the as-built measurements of each of the unit line items in the contract.  Significant cost reductions resulted from:

    1.  Field changes reduced the amount of ductile iron pipe, brass tubing, and ductile iron fittings required.

    2.  The on-site soils were suitable for backfill, thus importing fill material from off-site was not necessary.

This contract was originally approved by Council on July 19, 2018 in the amount of $771,320.00.  The total amount of this contract to date, including this modification is $769,750.00.
