Description This is a notification of an emergency purchase for bar screens from Cornerstone H2O in the amount of $146,500. The Springfield Stormwater Pump Station has two existing, aging FMC brand bar screens. These bar screens consist of stationary inclined bars, which are cleaned by motor-driven rakes that are used to remove debris from incoming stormwater flows. The debris includes floatable plastics and organic materials, which may damage the pumps. If the bar screens fail to operate the bars become plugged with debris and prevent floodwater from reaching the pumps for conveyance, effectively rendering the pump station a dam. One of the two bar screens at the Springfield Station failed and was inoperable. In the event the second bar screen were to fail, the pump station would not function and flooding could occur as a result. The Springfield Stormwater Pump Station is now 24 years old and all of its associated components have been in constant service providing flood control since 1999. | |
