This is a contract with Metro Elevator for the modernization of the City Hall elevator in the amount of $1,000,000. This project includes a new mechanical lift system and an updated cab interior, while preserving the hoist way, machine room, and other historic elements of the current unit. Modernizing the elevator would improve reliability and safety for City staff, Councilmembers, and visitors to City Hall.

The current City Hall elevator is very antiquated which makes it difficult to obtain original (OEM) parts. When the unit experiences mechanical failures, replacement parts are expensive and have long lead times for the delivery or fabrication of compatible parts.

This purchase will be made through a cooperative purchasing agreement with the OMNIA State Cooperative. The contract was competitively solicited by OMNIA and awarded to Metro Elevator under contract #159575, which expires on September 30, 2026. Per the Division 10 Section 4-4152 of the City of Savannah’s purchasing ordinance, cooperative purchasing is authorized as an appropriate procurement method.

Due to long lead times associated with elevator parts, installation would occur in December 2026 when usage is at a decreased level.
