February 27, 2020 City Council Regular Meeting
Title
59. Adoption of a Resolution to Transfer Title of Property known as 2205 and 2207 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 620 West 42nd Street, West Savannah, to the Land Bank Authority for the Renovation of Two Single Family Units
Strategic Priority
Neighborhood Revitalization
Description

The Mayor and Aldermen have recognized that Savannah needs more housing that is affordable to modest income households.  The Chatham County / City of Savannah Land Bank Authority (LBA) has requested that the City transfer title to a blighted vacant historic house at 2205 MLK Jr. Blvd., an adjoining vacant lot at 2207 MLK Jr. Blvd. and a blighted vacant historic house at 620 West 42nd Street in the Cuyler-Brownville neighborhood to the LBA. The LBA, in turn, will provide the Historic Savannah Foundation (HSF) with an option to purchase the properties that will result in the HSF maintaining, marketing and selling the properties during the option period.  This will lead to the preservation and renovation of two historic houses and the provision of much needed housing for modest income households—both of which will benefit the historic neighborhood.  Adoption of this Resolution will help the City fulfill its goal of renovating and developing vacant properties with quality housing that is affordable to modest income persons. The City has, in the past, similarly transferred vacant and blighted property to the LBA for this purpose.
