Description

This is for contract modification No. 1 for landfill cover material to Savannah River Utilities (Savannah, GA) in an amount not to exceed $450,000.  
 
This contract will be used by the City of Savannah’s Sanitation Department – Refuse Disposal Division to provide cover material for usage at the Dean Forest Road Landfill. Landfills are covered with six inches of compressed soil daily. The soil covering acts as a seal to the compacted waste and prevents rodents (i.e., rats, mice), and other animals such as birds and flying insects from getting into the landfill.
   Approximately 1800 cubic yards are used weekly. The increase is due to the high volume of cover soil needed weekly. As a permitted facility, daily cover is required in accordance with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) rules.  
 

This contract was originally approved by Council on May 12, 2022, in the amount of $1,485,000 annually. The total amount of this contract, including this modification, is $1,935,000 annually. The contract expires May 11, 2026, and has one renewal option available
