Description This contract is for the purchase of a Hydra-Tapper Tapping Machine from Hydra-Stop in the amount of $63,957. A tapping machine provides access to a pressurized pipe without disrupting water pressure or service upstream of the tap. A pressure tap is first made by installing a sleeve that is capable of retaining the internal pressure of the water main around the pipe. A temporary gate valve is attached to the sleeve, through which the tap is performed. This machine will be used by the Water Distribution Department to gain access and provide water service connections for residential and industrial customers. The existing equipment has reached its life expectancy. Replacing existing equipment with the same manufacturer/model of equipment will save the City on future repair/part costs since parts are interchangeable. The machine is vital to the Water Distribution operations. The cost to hire a contractor to perform the tapping would substantially increase the cost to the City and cause longer lead times. The Water Distribution staff perform an average of 50 to 60 taps per year.
The vendor is: S.S. Hydra-Stop (Burr Ridge, IL) (D) $63,957 (D) Indicates non-local, non-dbe business. | |
