Title 44. Motion to Correct the Record Regarding Renewal of Annual Contract for Critical Workforce Provisions with the Guardian Centers, LLC (Event No. 5452)
Strategic Priority Public Safety
Description On December 6, 2018, City Council renewed an annual contract with Guardian Centers LLC for critical workforce facility provisions in the amount of $12,500.00. Within that contract was an option to have Guardian administer an annual emergency exercise at the facility in the amount of $33,645.65. Approval today clarifies that the total amount of this contract is $46,145.65. The City’s Emergency Planning Division continually plans and prepares for emergencies, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and other extreme events that can impact City operations and safety of the general public. If a Category 3 or above hurricane were to impact the community, it would be necessary for critical workforce to evacuate until such time as it is safe to return, as few buildings in the City could withstand a storm of that force. Such a facility would have to house up to 1,700 City personnel to include feeding, fueling, parking, and a command post. Additionally, the facility should be out of the impacted area, but close enough to get employees back into Savannah as quickly as possible. This facility is an 830 acre facility located approximately three hours from Savannah. The facility is able to provide housing and accommodations for several thousand individuals at a time. The total contract is for retaining the facility and conducting an annual exercise at the facility.
