The attached petition request is for the naming of the recreational space in Cloverdale Park, located on Cloverdale Road, to 'Lucius "Bo" Levett Recreational Area'.

The petition has met all the requirements of the Public Property Naming Ordinance Section 4:1100-1108.

Lucius Levett was employed by the City of Savannah from February 1, 1963 until March 12, 1987, when he resigned in good standing to accept a job with the Harlem Globetrotters.  Levett was hired as a patrolman for the Savannah Police Department and resigned as a corporal.  On his two applications for patrolman, Levett indicated he was born on July 24, 1935 in Warsaw, Georgia.  He was a graduate of A. E. Beach High School, served in the US Army Reserves, and was a member of the Georgia Interscholastic Association, Frank Callen Boy’s Club, Savannah Cardinals Baseball Club, Bee Hines Football Club, and Jet’s Club Boy’s Club.  He had also previously worked for the Savannah Sun, 1953-1961, and the Savannah Steel Company in 1961.  During his career with the Savannah Police Department, he helped revive the Police Athletic League (PAL) in 1963 with the organization of a touch football team.  Levett was also an integral part of the Community Relations Program in the 1960s.  Mr. Levett invested a great deal of time and energy into the relationship between the police and the citizens of Savannah, using sports and activities to further the development of Savannah's youth. 

 The petition has been reviewed by all impacted City agencies and has been approved by the MPC's Historic Sites and Monuments Commission.  The petition has met all other requirements set out in the Naming Ordinance.
