14. Authorize the City Manager to Execute Contract Modification No. 1 for the Ogeechee Road Water & Sewer Relocations with Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) in the Amount of $684,432. The City of Savannah entered into an agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation to construct water and sewer utility relocations along Ogeechee Road. The additional funding requested is for the difference between the Engineer’s Opinion of Probable cost and the project Bid for Construction, recently accepted by GDOT. Description

This is for contract modification no. 1 for the Ogeechee Road Water & Sewer Relocations in the amount of $684,432. The City of Savannah entered into an agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation to construct water and sewer utility relocations along Ogeechee Road. The additional funding requested is for the difference between the Engineer’s Opinion of Probable cost and the project Bid for Construction, recently accepted by GDOT. 

 

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is planning to widen Ogeechee Road from I-516 to Victory Drive and to update the intersections and traffic signals for better roadway safety.  Approximately 10,750 feet of water mains and 6,600 feet of sewer mains will require relocation to accommodate this work.  While this work is required by GDOT for the roadway project, these utilities were built between 1960 and 2005, thus many are due for replacement.

 

The existing agreement requires the City of Savannah to pay 63.27% of the water and sewer construction cost and GDOT to pay for 36.73% of the same. The current bid for W&S work is $5,792,797.56, thus $3,665,103.02 will be paid by the City and $2,127,694.54 will be paid by GDOT.  Total payment will be based on final water & sewer construction costs. The existing contract was approved at the February 8, 2023, Council Meeting in the amount of $2,980,672. The total of this contract, including this modification, is $3,665,104.
