14. Zoning of 6098 Ogeechee Road (PIN 11029 05014) Owned by Thankful Baptist Church, Inc. from R-A (Residential Agriculture) to R-A-CO (Residential Agriculture-CO) to Support Annexation (File No. 21-005068-ZA)
The petition for 6098 Ogeechee Road (PIN 11029 05014), owned by Thankful Baptist Church, Inc., is to zone approximately 14.58 acres from RA (Residential Agriculture) to RA-CO (Residential Agriculture-County). The RA zoning district protects those rural areas within the urban expansion areas of the county for future urban development, and to protect certain rural highway roadside areas against strip development, which can lead to traffic congestion, traffic hazards and roadside blight. The zoning request will support the annexation of the subject property from unincorporated Chatham County into the City limits.
On August 3, 2020, a subdivision plat was approved creating two parcels—6078 Ogeechee (PIN 11029 05004) and 6098 Ogeechee (11029 05014). This zoning request is for 6098 Ogeechee. In September 2021, Mayor and Aldermen approved the annexation and zoning request for 6078 Ogeechee Road.
Public notification for the zoning request included sending letters to the 11 property owners within 300 feet of the subject property. Public notices were also placed in the Savannah Morning News on August 24, 2021 and signs posted on the parcel advertising the zoning hearing.
The property is currently vacant. The property is accessible from a public right-of-way and City of Savannah water and sewer service is available to serve the property. The owner desires to gain access to these utilities on in-City terms. The cost of providing water and sewer service will be fully covered by connection fees and service fees charged to benefiting parcels in the area.
