24. Authorize the City Manager to Accept a FY25 Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Disaster Recovery Dislocated Worker Grant Award in the Amount of $500,000. The award will be used to provide programs from October 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026 to eligible dislocated workers who have been impacted by a natural disaster, laid off or job displacement and are seeking employment or training opportunities in high-demand industries. The City serves as the fiduciary agent for the 10-county region.

Description

The City of Savannah has received a “Statement of Grant Award” through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) for the Disaster Recovery Dislocated Worker Grant. This funding will provide temporary employment opportunities to assist with recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. It will also be used to strengthen service delivery by ensuring WIOA-eligible dislocated workers—including those who have been laid off and military spouses—have access to employment and comprehensive training programs that prepare them for high-demand careers. The grant period is from Octoberr 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026.

The WorkSource Coastal Hurricane Helene Grant will serve Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh and Screven counties.

Pursuant to the WorkSource Coastal Consortium Agreement, the City of Savannah serves as the fiduciary agent for the ten-county region and, as such, City Council approval and authorization for the City Manager to receive grant funding and enter into grant administration agreements is necessary in accordance with the City of Savannah's procurement policies and procedures.
