The applicant is requesting approval of an honorary street designation on a portion of Live Oak Street to have the honorary name of "Linda B. Harris Way." The proposed designation would span the portion of Live Oak Street between East 35th and East 36th Streets.

Per Sec. 4-1104 of the Savannah City Code: Honorary street name designations are intended to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the city. Where deemed consistent with the objectives of this section, the designation will be a temporary assignment of the honorarium and shall be in addition to the official name of an existing right-of-way. 

Linda B. Harris' "presence in this place and at her home was a hub for community for this neighborhood, in particular on Live Oak street. She was both a friend to the community, and a mother to all who knew her. Linda served with distinction as a decorated member of the 165th Airlift Wing of the Georgia National Guard for over 36 years of service - retiring with full honors as a Senior Master Sergeant. During her service to our Nation, Harris served during numerous critical operations for the United States Air Force including, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn, Operation Enduring Freedom, and others during the Global War on Terrorism."

The Historic Site and Monument Commission recommends approval to the Savannah City Council for an Honorary Street Designation as requested for Linda B. Harris Way, because the proposed honorary street designation meets the standards within Article E - Naming and Renaming of Public Property, Facilities and Streets.
