The services will be for TSA upgrades on the EDS-2 and EDS-3 (Explosive Detection System) screening equipment. The screening equipment will receive a software upgrade on all of the machines which will allow them to be retrofitted with extensions capable of handling oversized bags up to a length of approximately 63-inches. This will enable larger items such as golf bags to pass through the EDS machines unrestricted without having to pull each of these bags offline to hand search. At this time, only two (2) of the machines will receive the retrofit, and modifications to the existing conveyor sections and programming must be made to accommodate the changes. JSM, who was part of the original design team on Phase I and II of the Automated Outbound Baggage Handling project, know this system very well and will benefit the Airport by coordinating all aspects of the design and install with TSA and the contractor (it is anticipated that Logan Teleflex will be contracted with to perform the conveyor upgrades). Their scope will also include implementing the TSA required testing, final design review, submittal review, and closeout procedures associated with TSA guidelines.
