Title 53. Motion to Adopt a Resolution to Execute a Memorandum of Understanding with Chatham County Board of Commissioners Promoting Citizen Participation in the 2020 Census
Strategic Priority Economic Strength And Poverty Reduction
Description Staff is requesting approval for the City Manager to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chatham County Board of Commissioners promoting citizen participation in the 2020 Census. The City of Savannah will contribute $37,459.60 towards this effort. According to the U.S. Census, response rates for Census Bureau surveys have declined over the past few decades. The Census Count impacts the City’s federal funding allocations, electoral districts, and planning efforts. It is critical that the City of Savannah engages as many residents as possible to participate in the 2020 Census. As a contributing municipality, the City’s resources will be used by the Chatham County Complete Count Committee (CCC) to educate citizens and provide targeted outreach to various segments of our population which are under counted or “Hard to Count”.
