Motion to Amend the Zoning Ordinance Regarding Review of New Construction and Exterior Work Visible From a Street or Lane (Petitioner: Planning Commission)

The Mayor and Aldermen approved the text amendment request following a zoning hearing at the October 26, 2017 City Council Meeting. The action being considered now is the approval of the ordinance to amend the Zoning Ordinance regarding the Certificate of Appropriateness review process. (File No. 17-005633-ZA)

MPC has proposed revisions to the Certificate of Appropriateness review process for the Mid-City District to do the following:

1) Clarify that new construction is required to be reviewed for a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA)

2) Revise wording within Sec. 8-3207(1) for consistency

3) Indicate that a COA is required for all structures visible from a public right of way
