Description
Traffic Engineering has investigated and validated resident complaints of obstructed streets and blocked residential driveways in the 600 block of West 58th Street as well as Meding Street between West 57th and West 58th Street Lane. A nearby building supply company regularly parks a 60' tractor trailer on West 58th Street; customers and suppliers of the company also use West 58th and Meding Streets for parking, loading and unloading of commodities. West 58th Street is residential in nature and therefore was not constructed for sustained use by commercial vehicles. Meding Street is narrow, only 24' wide; commercial vehicles parked on the street force drivers to cross into oncoming traffic in order to pass.
Prohibiting commercial vehicles and delivery trucks in the 600 block of West 58th Street will provide relief for residents by maintaining unobstructed access to their homes and driveways and the purpose of including West 57th, 59th, 60th, and 61st Streets is to prevent these vehicles from moving to adjacent streets.
Parking is currently prohibited on the east side of Meding Street. By restricting parking on the west side, from the south curb line of West 57th Street to 125' south of the south curb line of West 58th Street, this will keep the southbound travel lane unobstructed for through traffic.
The Amendment to the Code of the City of Savannah, Part 7-1032, Appendix I, Section 215, Commercial vehicles prohibited includes the following additions:

West 58th Street between Meding Street and dead end west
