The Savannah Airport Commission is undertaking a project for the construction of improvements in the Southeast Quadrant. To make this project possible, SAC had to acquire the leasehold estate of Bouy, Hall & Howard & Associates, who operates and manages the Quail Run Lodge. SAC initiated condemnation proceedings. The condemned challenged SAC’s right to condemn. After negotiations, the condemnee agreed to drop the challenge to the condemnation, and to consent to condemnation for a payment toward the final award of $1.5 million. Condemnee continues to challenge the amount, which will be determined by a jury unless a prior settlement is reached. The parties agreed to allow the condemnee to remain on the property until December 31st and to remain on a portion of the property not needed immediately by SAC until not later than July 1, 2023. Approval will allow SAC‘s construction to proceed on schedule. Staff is recommending ratifying the disbursement of $1,500,000.
