This is for Contract Modification No.1 for the installation of Two Dan Foss 550 Horsepower Variable Frequency Drive Installation with GoForth Williamson in the amount of $56,334.

The original emergency purchase was to replace the variable frequency drives (VFDs) that failed at the Industrial and Domestic Plant. A VFD is an electronic device used to control the torque, speed, and direction of the motor, smoothly starting and accelerating the motor to the desired speed at a controlled acceleration rate. Deceleration is also controlled, and braking is available as an option. In this case, the VFDs control how water is pumped to major industries, the main groundwater system, and insuring fire protection. As the City’s regional water provider, this placed the plant in a severely compromised position because only three of the five pumps were providing the industrial and potable water demands. The installation of the two VFDs was separate due to the extended delivery times and supply chain issues.

This contract was originally approved for emergency purchase on December 8, 2021, and the notification to Council was made on February 10, 2022, in the amount of $114,488. The total amount of this contract to date, including the modification, is $170,822.
