March 9, 2023 City Council Regular Meeting
Title
36. Authorize the City Manager to Accept Donation of a Portion of 5111 Abercorn Street (PIN 20128 02001).
Strategic Priority
Neighborhood Revitalization
Description

Attorney Steve Greenberg, on behalf of the Jewish Educational Alliances of Savannah (JEA), has offered to donate a small triangular portion of the JEA parcel located at 5111 Abercorn Street (PIN 20128 02001) to clear a title issue and facilitate access to a nearby property. Specifically, a City lane adjoins the JEA property and provides legal access to nearby properties. However, that lane is physically blocked by a large, majestic oak tree. As a result, vehicles accessing the nearby property have been driving over the small triangular shaped JEA property to get around the tree. The drive is asphalt paved (albeit not to City specifications). Rather than cut down the beautiful tree, the City and JEA have agreed to the donation of the property to help facilitate legal access to these nearby residents.

The petition has been reviewed and approved by the following departments: Stormwater Division, Development Services, Planning & Urban Design, Real Estate Services, and Public Works & Water Resources. The Transportation Services Department notes the asphalt driveway on the small donation parcel is not to City standards. However, it facilitates access and avoids the need to cut down the majestic oak tree.

Recommend approval to accept donation of this parcel and authorize the City Manager to execute associated closing documents.
