Recommend approval of Contract Modification No. 1 for the River Street Improvements project with McLendon Enterprises in the amount of $200,034.89.

There are currently two hotels under construction along West River Street. The original contract was to extend, relocate, and upgrade existing water and sewer infrastructures within the area prior to the opening of these hotels. This modification is needed due to unforeseen underground site conditions identified during construction. 

These changes include the replacement of a 24-inch-diameter storm line; deduction of paving work that will be performed as part of a future project; and water, sewer, stormwater quantity revisions. While excavating as part of the installation of a 12-inch-diameter water main, the contractor noticed an existing 24-inch brick storm pipe was collapsed, necessitating the removal and replacement of the pipe with new reinforced concrete pipe. Additional water, sewer, and stormwater quantity revisions were needed to avoid underground power utility conflicts with Georgia Power.

The original contract was approved by Council on April 27, 2017 in the amount of $5,677,106.58. The total amount of this contract to date, including this modification, is $5,877,141.47.
