Title 33. Motion to Procure Microcontroller System Upgrade from Templeton and Associates (Event No. 7005)
Strategic Priority Infrastructure
Description Staff recommends approval to procure an upgrade for the existing Type A Microcontroller System Control Center from Templeton and Associates in the amount of $63,810.00. The control center will be used by the Public Works and Water Resources Department to improve system wide communications between the President Street Treatment Plant, the Georgetown Treatment Plant, the Supervisory Control Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, and the Auto Alarm Dialers at each plant. The current Microcontroller System Control Center (MSCC) is obsolete. For compatibilitiy reasons, staff recommends engaging the original provider in this procurement. The benefit of the new control center will be effective control of the ultraviolet light used to disinfect the effluent (outgoing) water flow. The ultraviolet disinfection equipment is considered to be primary mechanism for the inactivation/destruction of pathogenic organisms to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases to downstream users and the environment. The effectiveness of the ultraviolet disinfection system depends on the intensity of the ultraviolet radiation. The ultraviolet equipment has been in service for 15 years, and is nearing the end of its useful life. This is a sole source because Templeton and Associates is the original provider of the existing ultraviolet systems.
