Title 18. A Resolution in Support of the Creation of U.S. Bicycle Route 1
Strategic Priority Good Government
Description Staff recommends that Council support, by resolution, the joint application of the GA Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the Coastal Regional Commission (CRC) to the American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO). This application will designate U.S Bicycle Route 1 through coastal Georgia and the City of Savannah. The joint application requires support from all municipalities through which the route will be located in order to secure the U.S. Bicycle Route designation. Experienced cyclists are already using much of this route. This is an effort to formally identify the route, improve awareness and safety, and stimulate the local economy along the route. This supports the City’s strategic plan efforts to promote a resilient diversified economy and to provide access to recreation. GDOT is responsible for installation and maintenance of all signage related to the route. No street treatments are required by the City as a result of this designation.
