Title 38. Motion to Declare Property Located at 6 W. Henry Street as Surplus and Available for Sale
Strategic Priority Neighborhood Revitalization
Description The City-owned property located at 6 West Henry Street (PIN 2-0044 -036-003) was previously used as Fire Station #5 and is currently being used for equipment storage. The property is located in a rapidly transitioning area of Savannah and staff believes the highest and best use of this building has changed to commercial redevelopment. Staff has already received many inquiries for purchase of this property. The 10,773-square-foot site is improved with a 5,370-square-foot one-story building constructed in 1946. At the time of completion, the structure featured eight rooms, including an apparatus room, dormitory, battalion chief’s office and bedroom, watchman’s room, locker room, dining room, and kitchen, as well as two bathrooms and a furnace room with with an oil-fired furnace. If declared surplus and available for sale, staff will prepare and issue a request for proposals (RFP) soliciting a buyer for the property, and will procure a current appraisal of the market value of the property. Proposals will be evaluated by an interdisciplinary committee of staff, and a recommendation of the highest responsible bidder will be made to City Council for award.
