Description This is for Contract Modification No. 2 with Chemtrade Chemicals USA, LLC (211 Brampton Road, Savannah, GA) in an Amount Not to Exceed $1,089,536. The Industrial and Domestic Water Treatment Plant are anticipating 5.0 million gallons per day (MGD) in water usage due to the mandated ground water cutbacks and allowance for potential degradation of raw water requiring more extensive treatment.
This modification will ensure an adequate supply of aluminum sulfate is maintained because it's an integral part of the treatment process. Aluminum sulfate specifically, is used for coagulation and removal of solids in the incoming raw water before sedimentation. Aluminum sulfate usage is based on two variables: fluctuating raw water quality and industrial customer demands.
Aluminum sulfate has been used in process control since the Industrial & Domestic (I&D) Plant began to operate in 1948. This action helps accomplish the City's goal of providing safe drinking water to citizens, water that meets industry standards for its processes and meets regulatory requirements. The unintended consequence of not having sufficient aluminum sulfate would be a failure to produce finished water suitable for industrial and domestic customer bases. | |
