Title 52. Temporary Stay for 120 Days on Enforcement of the Archaeology Resource Protection Ordinance
Strategic Priority Neighborhood Revitalization
Description In December 2019, City Council approved the Archaeology Resource Protection Ordinance to identify and plan for the protection of the archaeological resources for certain City ground disturbing projects. A temporary pause in the implementation of the ordinance for 120 days is needed to allow staff to engage qualified archaeologists or archaeological companies, as demanded by the Ordinance, through the development and evaluation of a Request for Proposals/Qualifications to conduct archaeology assessments. The City remains committed to facilitating further discussion with an archaeology working committee over the next 12 to 18 months to determine additional steps that should be taken to strengthen the ordinance and provide additional opportunities to highlight archaeology and its importance to our history.
