Description Recommend approval to award a construction/beautification contract for the Gwinnett Street Widening Project to Preferred Materials, Inc. in the amount of $13,662,942.10. Public Works and Water Resources will use the services to widen the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane roadway. This project also includes the widening of a section of the Springfield Canal which will coincide with the construction of a new bridge to raise the existing roadway elevations. The project will also include sidewalk and bike lane additions. This project will extend approximately 200 feet west of the Gwinnett Street and Stiles Avenue intersection. Gwinnett Street will be closed for the duration of construction and traffic will be diverted via detour. Due to existing environmental issues, a remediation workplan was provided for monitoring and testing during the construction. The project is estimated to last 24 months. This event had a 20% DBE goal of which half (10%) was to be met by a local DBE. The recommended bidder submitted DBE participation at the subcontractor level in the total amount of 20.92%, using ED Trucking (Savannah, GA)in the amount of 10.25% and Lane Lee Trucking (Savannah, GA) in the amount of 10.67%.
