Title Motion to Award Contract for Fuel Cards to WEX, Inc. (Event 5242)
Description Recommend approval to procure a fuel card agreement from WEX, Inc. Currently, the City of Savannah has three fueling locations -- SCMPD Headquarters; Vehicle Maintenance, 6900 Sallie Mood Drive; and City Lot, 1100 West Gwinnett Street. These are all centrally located, and can be time-consuming and expensive to reach for City vehicles located outside central Savannah or traveling outside of the area. Under this agreement, WEX fuel cards will be used by various departments as a convenient alternative for obtaining fuel for vehicles that cannot easily access City-owned fueling locations. These fuel cards can be used at any fueling establishment that accepts the WEX fuel cards, of which there are over 180,000 U.S. locations. WEX provides significant purchasing controls, only allows fuel purchases and provides regular financial reporting and vehicle analysis reports. This agreement will not impact the City’s current fuel contract, as it allows for fuel to be purchased from other vendors. City fueling facilities will remain the primary way in which to obtain fuel for City vehicles. The proposed agreement would authorize the City of Savannah to access the State of Georgia contract for WEX fuel cards, which is allowed per Section 2-4154 of the City’s Purchasing Ordinance. This agreement is cost neutral: there are no account set-up fees or monthly card fees. The City will pay less than the price at the pump due to tax-exemption and negotiated agreements between WEX, Inc. and participating retail fuel locations.
