Title
21. Amendment to Sunday Alcohol Sales Requirements for Museums. (Revenue Department)
Strategic Priority
N/A
Description

The proposed ordinance amendment modifies the eligibility requirements for Sunday alcohol sales permits within the City of Savannah by creating a specific exemption for qualifying museums. Under current provisions, new Sunday sales alcohol license holders must demonstrate that at least fifty percent (50%) of their annual gross sales are derived from the sale of prepared meals or food and provide certification from a licensed certified public accountant within six months of permit issuance.

The amendment would allow Sunday alcohol sales at museums that meet the following criteria:

  • The museum is situated in a building identified on the Georgia Register of Historic Places;
  • The establishment holds a valid license for the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises; and
  • Revenue generated from admission charges and ticket sales equals at least fifty percent (50%) of the establishment’s total sales.

Qualifying museums would be required to submit documentation and certification from a licensed certified public accountant verifying that admission charges and ticket sales constitute at least fifty percent (50%) of total sales, in lieu of meeting the prepared food sales requirement.
