The Paradise Park-Oakhurst Neighborhood Association request City Council approve their petition to name the undesignated FEMA lots located at 202 Chatham Street to be called 'Harmon Creek Park".  Paradise Park President, Mr. Alan Boulton, received support from his neighborhood association to move forward with this request.

Located within the 4th District, the proposed location is within several contiguous FEMA lots and their canal easements border Atwood Street, Chatham Street, and Kandlewood Street. These lots were purchased by the City of Savannah under FEMA grants due to historical flooding issues and therefore cannot be utilized for the construction of residences or other building types.

Research by the City's Municipal Archives Department discovered a map housed in the Chatham County Engineering Office called the '1888 Blandford Map'. This map labels the waterway cutting through the park as the “Harmon Canal". In the spirit of the adjacent canal's name, the neighborhood agreed to pursue the name 'Harmon Creek Park'.

This petition was reviewed and unanimously approved by the Metropolitan Planning Commission's Historic Sites and Monuments Commission on June 6, 2020. This petition has been endorsed by the 4th District City Alderman and all impacted City Departments have reviewed this request.

This petition has met all the requirements of the City's naming ordinance (Section 4-1102).
