Strategic Priority
Good Government
Description

The 2033 Strategic Initiative is a joint effort by Chatham County, the Savannah Economic Development Authority, and community partners to fund and develop a comprehensive growth and community plan in anticipation of Savannah’s 300th anniversary. Vision 2033 will address key areas including housing, education, healthcare, land use, policy, resilience, stormwater management, environmental protection, zoning and density, infrastructure, transportation, and economic development. The plan was introduced at a City Council workshop on October 27, 2022.

The 2033 Strategic Initiative has a $3 million budget, funded by $1 million each from Chatham County and the City of Savannah, $250,000 from the Savannah Economic Development Authority, and $750,000 from private and community partners. The funds will support hiring a consultant to build on existing plans, engage the community, develop a goal-oriented strategy, and support early implementation efforts.

The City contributed $1 million through two $500,000 allocations in FY20 and FY21. These funds are held in reserve pending the approval of the IGA.  The Chatham County Board of Commissioners approved the attached IGA on February 7, 2025, followed by the Savannah Economic Development Authority’s approval on February 11, 2025.
