This construction contract award to The Polote Corporation is for the repair of bridges at the Bacon Park Golf Course in the amount of $319,256.85. 
 
The Bacon Park Golf Course is the City of Savannah’s only city-owned golf course and has served as a longstanding community recreation asset since opening in 1926. Designed by renowned golf architect Donald Ross, the course was originally developed as part of a larger municipal golf complex and today operates as a 27-hole public golf facility. Over the past decade, the course has undergone significant restoration and reinvestment to preserve its historic character and improve the overall player experience. The course remains committed to providing affordable and accessible recreation opportunities for residents and visitors and will celebrate its 100 year anniversary this fall. 
 
The inner eleven bridges that provide golf cart access throughout the 27-hole course are in failed or failing condition due to age, corrosion, and deterioration of structural and travel surface components. Several bridges have experienced advanced deterioration of metal framing systems, wood decking, curbs, and rail elements, resulting in safety concerns and operational impacts to the course. 
 
This construction contract will include the removal and replacement of two existing metal bridges that have already been taken out of service due to unsafe conditions. The remaining nine bridges will undergo substantial rehabilitation, including surface preparation and recoating of corroded structural steel members, replacement of deteriorated wood decking and timber curbs, installation of deck surfaces, and related structural and safety improvements necessary to extend the life of the bridges and maintain safe access throughout the golf course.
