Title 35. Motion to Approve Intergovernmental Agreement with Chatham County Pertaining to E-911 Center
Description The City of Savannah is currently operating a countywide E-911 Center, which has interoperability among Chatham County and all municipalities in the County except Tybee Island. While the City receives all E-911 fees collected by telephone and cellular service providers in the County to offset E-911 Center costs, that fee revenue historically has not covered the cost of E-911 operations. As E-911 is a service that benefits all of Chatham County, it is more appropriate for Chatham County to operate the Center to ensure continual and efficient operations of call-taking and dispatch functions. Under the agreement, the City and County will work to transition operations effective July 1, 2018, after which the County will assume full operational and financial responsibility for the E-911 Center. (Please note that the E-911 agreement contains a January 1, 2018 start date. This discrepancy will be corrected prior to the January 18 Council Meeting). The County will, in consultation with Chatham municipalities, execute a mutually agreeable intergovernmental agreement pertaining to operations and governance of the E-911 Center. The Chatham County Board of Commissioners approved this agreement during its meeting of December 15, 2017.
