Description

Notification of an emergency procurement for replacement of the City Hall fire alarm system from Johnson-Laux Construction, LLC in the amount of $143,013.23.

City Hall’s current system has failed, primarily due to age and technological obsolescence. The system will be replaced with a new combination of a hard wired and wireless system that will protect occupants, notify the fire department in emergencies, and better protect the historic facility. Wireless components were selected to avoid significant impacts to the facility as a result of wiring installation. Until the new system is fully installed and tested, security personnel will monitor the facility to ensure safety and well-being of its occupants. The Fire Marshal has been consulted and has approved of the plan to replace this system.

This is an emergency procurement because City facilities must have functioning fire alert systems in place to ensure the health and safety of the public, as well as City staff and officials. Johnson-Laux Construction, LLC was selected as it is the state’s job order contractor for this region and was able to perform this work immediately. The State of Georgia’s job order contract is considered a convenience contract that is available for use by all state, city, and county public entities. The purpose of this contract is to provide multi-traded general construction services to accomplish small to medium sized projects for repair, alteration, modernization, rehabilitation, and minor new construction to infrastructure, buildings, structures, or other real property. The State of Georgia used a competitive bidding procedure to select Johnson-Laux Construction to serve as the sole provider of these services for this region.
