Description

The petitioner, Ron Hessler, is requesting approval to rename Brinkman Park to Brinkman-DeLorme Park to reflect the contributions of John S. DeLorme, a former neighborhood president who was instrumental in the improvements and beautification of the Parkside Neighborhood. The park is located at the corner of 49th Street and Waters Avenue. It was donated to the City in 1922 and set aside as a public park in 1924 by City Council. The park is likely named after Henry Christian Brinkman, who was an alderman from 1925 to 1934.

The petition has been reviewed and met all the requirements by the Greenscapes Division and Parks & Recreation Services. All historical documentation and claims have been verified by the Municipal Records & Archives Department. This petition was unanimously approved by the Park & Tree Commission and Historic Sites and Monuments Commission.

The petition request has met all the requirements of the City's Public Property Naming Ordinance and has strong neighborhood support.
