Title 57. Authorize City Manager to Declare Surplus and Available for Sale Two Remnant Parcels
Strategic Priority Neighborhood Revitalization
Description Robert McCorkle, on behalf of his client, has requested two remnant parcels (PINs 20074 33008 and 20074 33009) be declared surplus and available for sale to the adjacent landowner. Georgia Code 36-37-6 provides authorization for municipalities to “sell and convey parcels of narrow strips of land so shaped or so small as to be incapable of being used independently as zoned or under applicable subdivision or other development ordinances ... to abutting property owners." (ie: remnant parcels). These remnants total +/- 3,456 square feet and appear to be formerly part of Barrington Street (aka 44th Lane). This land was previously declared surplus on March 29, 2007, by the City Council, but a sale was never consumated. The requestor’s client is currently under contract to purchase the surrounding parcels and intends to redevelop the assembled site. If declared surplus and available for sale, the buyer will be required to procure an appraisal by an appraiser acceptable to the City and the appraised market value will be the sale price of the property or the Chatham County Assessor's Office value, whichever is greater. Further request authorization for the City Manager to execute a deed and associated closing documents.
