Description
The Savannah Trustees' Garden Club was fouunded on February 15, 1926, in Savannah, Georgia and in 2026 commemmorates 100 years of dedicated service, civic engagement, and stewardship of horticultural, historical, and environmental traditions.
The Savannah Trustees' Garden Club took its name from the Trustees' Garden, the first public garden in the State of Georgia, established in 1733 by the Trustees of the Georgia Colony as an experimental garden to assess the viability of cultivating indigo and mulberry trees to support silkworm production and other agricultural enterprises vital to the colony's success.
The club has a long and significant history of community involvement through beautification, restoration and preservation of many of Savannah's landscapes and properties. For a century, the Savannah Trustees' Garden Club has honored this legacy through its committment to gardening, conservation, education, historic preservation and community beautification, enriching the cultural and civic life of Savannah.
