Title
31. Authorize City Manager to Execute a Contract Modification No. 1 for Generator Maintenance for Stormwater Management with Current Edge in the Amount of $300,000. (Stormwater Department)
Strategic Priority
GOAL 4:  Develop World Class Livable Environment & Infrastructure
Description

This is for Contract Modification No. 1 for Generator Maintenance for Stormwater Management with Current Edge in the amount of $300,000.

Staff is requesting Council approval to increase the Current Edge contractor cap by $300,000 to support critical electrical repairs and preventive maintenance at the City’s stormwater pump stations. The breakers that supply power to the generators at these facilities have become inoperable and have exceeded their useful service life. Without functioning breakers, the generators cannot reliably activate during major storm events, creating a significant risk to the City’s ability to manage stormwater and prevent localized flooding. Increasing the contractor cap will allow the City to replace these aging breakers and complete essential preventive maintenance on the generators, restoring full operational reliability. This work is necessary to ensure the pump stations remain fully functional during periods of heavy rainfall, protecting residents, infrastructure, and property.

The City has historically relied on contractors for specialized electrical work of this nature, but the current cap is no longer sufficient to cover the cost of the required repairs. Approving this increase aligns with the City’s broader goals of maintaining resilient infrastructure, strengthening climate preparedness, and ensuring continuity of essential public services. It also supports the City’s long-term commitment to proactive investment in critical systems that safeguard the community during severe weather. No significant unintended consequences are anticipated, as the work is routine and corrective in nature. Deferring the repairs would increase the risk of generator failure during storm events and compromise the reliability of the stormwater system. Given the urgency and specialized nature of the work, increasing the Current Edge contractor cap represents the most practical and responsible course of action.

This contract was originally approved by Council on May 26, 2022, in the amount of $108,360.
