Recommend approval to procure 70 Motorola APX-6000 portable radios from Motorola Solutions in the amount of $333,677.40. The Savannah Police Department currently uses the Motorola XTS – 5000 series and APX – 6000 Series portable radios as its primary means of communication. The XTS–5000 series portable radios are near the end of their life cycles and will no longer be supported by the vendor in 2019. The replacement of these radios will complete the switch to the currently supported APX-6000 portable radios.

The City and County jointly operate a Motorola Astro 25 Digital Simulcast Radio Network to support all government operations in Savannah and in Chatham County. The Motorola APX–6000 portable radio provides vendor-specific functions, which allow accurate and real-time location of the portable radio through background processes running on the Astro 25 radio network. This is a sole source because Motorola Solutions is the sole manufacturer of the Astro 25 line of radio equipment and software, which is required to integrate with the existing Motorola Astro 25 radio network and the Astro 25 vendor specific features available on the network.
