Title 19. Resolution to Impose a Temporary Stay on the Issuance of Alcoholic Beverage Licenses within Portions of Aldermanics District 5 and 1
Strategic Priority N/A
Description District 5 Alderwoman Estella Shabazz and District 1 Alderman Van R. Johnson II have requested a 90-stay on the issuance of alcoholic beverage licenses within portions of District 5 and 1 to allow for the establishment of reasonable and ascertainable standards for the regulation and control of alcoholic beverages in a manner designed to promote the health, safety and general welfare of the community. Alderwoman Shabazz believes there is a proliferation of establishments possessing licenses to sell or dispense alcoholic beverages within a certain portion of the Fifth Aldermanic District, and that continued issuance of licenses will present a condition at variance with the purpose and intent of the Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance. Approval would impose a 90-day stay on the processing of new applications for licenses to sell or dispense alcoholic beverages submitted by persons owning or occupying real property situated within the following area: Bounded on the north by the centerline of West Victory Drive (US Highway 80); on the west by the centerline of Interstate 516 (Lynes Parkway); on the south by the centerlines of Interstate 516 (Lynes Parkway) and West DeRenne Avenue; and, on the east by the centerline of Montgomery Street. During the 90-day stay, staff will research and propose revisions to the Code of Ordinances to address the issues associated with the continued issuance of licenses to sell alcoholic beverages within this area of the Fifth Aldermanic District.
