Title 21. Resolution Authorizing the Sale of Alcoholic Beverages for On-Premises Consumption on Sunday, December 31, 2023.
Strategic Priority Good Government
Description State law prohibits bars, nightclubs, and other such establishments from selling or dispensing alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption on Sundays. However, in 2015 the State of Georgia enacted an exception to this restriction through O.C.G.A. 3-3-7(r), which allows the governing authority of each jurisdiction in Georgia to designate one Sunday per year, between 12:30 p.m. and midnight, that such establishments may sell and dispense alcohol. December 31, 2023, falls on a Sunday. There have been requests from owners of bar establishments requesting the City to designate New Year's Eve 2023 for Sunday sales. Adoption of this Resolution would authorize the City Manager to take action to allow bars to open on Sunday, December 31, 2023.
