Title 9. Authorize the City Manager to Execute a Contract for The Emerge Job Training Program with Savannah Technical College (LOCAL) in an Amount Not to Exceed $196,000. The Emerge Job Training Program provides scholarships for high-demand and high-wage entry-level employment opportunities for residents of the City of Savannah. Scholarships are available to applicants who meet the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development income guidelines which help to defray the cost of tuition, equipment, and supplies associated with the job certification programs. Description This contract is for the Emerge Job Training Program with Savannah Technical College in an amount not to exceed $196,000. The Emerge Job Training Program provides scholarships for high-demand and high-wage entry-level employment opportunities for residents of the City of Savannah. Scholarships are available to applicants who meet the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development income guidelines which help to defray the cost of tuition, equipment, and supplies associated with the following job certification programs:
Certified Kitchen Cook ($80,000 for 40 income-eligible scholarship recipients) - the eight-week culinary art program prepares program participants to receive the following industry-recognized credentials: Certified Kitchen Cook, Customer Service, ServSafe Handler, ServSafe Manager, and a National Credential issued by the American Hotel and Lodging Institute. Successful participants will complete 70 training hours, making them more competitive for employment in the Hospitality and Culinary Art industries.
Fast Track Manufacturing Program ($116,000 for 40 income-eligible scholarship recipients) - the six-week manufacturing program prepares program participants to receive the following industry-recognized credentials: Forklift Operator, OSHA 10, Adult First Aid CPR/AED,10 soft skills, resume building, interview skills, financial wellness, Bennett Mechanical Comprehensive Test, Badger, and Lean Six Sigma White Belt in Manufacturing. Successful participants will complete 55 training hours, making them more competitive for employment in manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution.
