This contract is for the purchase of (27) Mowers from Beard Equipment in the amount of $105,788. These units will be purchased from Beard Equipment at the dealer’s cost, with no markup included in the purchase price. The City has been leasing the (27) mowers as part of the Park & Tree Department’s 2023 Back to Basics budget enhancement program. The original request to enter into a two-year lease agreement was approved by City Council on August 11, 2022, and the lease began on July 7, 2023. With the lease term now concluded, the vendor has offered the option to either purchase the equipment outright or continue leasing on a month-to-month basis at a cost of $11,579 per month. Staff recommend purchasing the mowers outright for $105,788. Continuing to lease the equipment for the next six to seven months would result in total projected rental costs ranging from $69,474 to $81,053, with no residual ownership or asset value to the City. Staff found it to be more cost-effective to purchase the equipment; the City will retain ownership, and after the anticipated use period, the mowers may be resold.
